Description:
Using the free .NET Framework in conjunction with Windows 2000/XP, ASP.NET and Microsoft's ADO.NET provide a method for collecting and delivering database content in a browser neutral format. In this course, backend web/database connectivity is examined through hands-on labs. Students will build an online store from scratch using either VB.NET or C# as the programming language and notepad as the editor. The intrinsic ASP.NET objects and class libraries are used providing fast and reliable database access to Microsoft SQL Server 2000. Other topics include: ASP and ASP.NET comparison/contrast, XML, ODBC Logging, remote website administration and dynamic website generation, Email notification, Cookies, Security and Setup of SSL. Students are encouraged to bring web enabled cell phones and PDAs. Students will leave class with a body of working code to use in their production environments.

Required Pre-Requesits:
A working knowledge of basic HTML
Knowledge of database concepts

Helpful Additional Pre-Requesits:
Some experience with a programming language such as Visual Basic, Java, C or C++
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server 7, Microsoft SQL 2000 or Microsoft Access

50% lecture & demonstration, 50% lab
21 hours class time
